Kaitlyn & Ben’s Engagement Session at Dogwood Canyon
This session... where do I even begin? It’s easily one of my favorite sessions of the year — and honestly, probably in my top ten of all time.
We had to push it back a few days because of some relentless rain, but it could not have worked out better. The weather, the light, the color — everything came together perfectly for Kaitlyn and Ben’s fall engagement session at Dogwood Canyon Nature Park.
A Fall Morning That Felt Like Magic
Dogwood Canyon sessions almost always mean an early morning for me — it’s about an hour and a half from home, and the park opens around 8:30 a.m. But that early start is so worth it. The soft morning light filtered through the trees, reflecting off the water, and the fog rolled across the creek almost the entire session. It was that dreamy kind of atmosphere photographers hope for but rarely get. And this year, the fall colors turned a little later than usual, which meant we got the most vibrant golden-orange backdrop to frame everything. It truly felt like Missouri was showing off that day.
Effortless Connection
From the very first pose, Kaitlyn and Ben made my job easy. They were so natural in front of the camera — laughing together, moving effortlessly, and bringing so much warmth and joy to every frame. You could tell immediately how comfortable they are together and how genuinely they enjoy each other’s company. It’s always such a gift to photograph couples who trust the process and just have fun with it. That’s when the magic really happens.
Counting Down to Their Wedding Day
Sessions like this remind me why I love engagement photography so much — it’s a chance to slow down, enjoy the season, and capture the excitement leading up to the wedding day. I absolutely can’t wait to celebrate with Kaitlyn and Ben again in March at Stonegate Glass Chapel. If their wedding day is anything like this session, I already know it’s going to be stunning.
Final Thoughts
Between the fog over the water, the glowing fall color, and the two of them just being completely themselves, this Dogwood Canyon session was one for the books. It’s the kind of session that reminds me how perfect Missouri mornings can be — and how a little patience (and rescheduling for the right weather) can make all the difference.
