Surprise Engagement for Mason & Sydney at Finley Farms | 2.21.26

First of all — she said yes.

And honestly, that’s the only detail that truly mattered that day. About a month before February 21st, Mason reached out to me about helping him plan a surprise proposal for Sydney at Finley Farms. Of course I said yes. These are the kinds of moments that are equal parts nerve-wracking and incredibly special, and I’m always honored to be trusted with them. We talked through several ideas and ultimately landed on proposing in front of the church. It’s one of the most beautiful spots on the property, and I knew I’d have good places to tuck myself away without being obvious. At least… that was the plan.

A Slightly Chaotic Saturday (In the Best Way)

When I arrived, I’ll admit I had a moment.

It was a Saturday, which meant Finley Farms was busy. And on top of that, there must have been a homecoming dance nearby because there were a lot of teens in formal dresses taking photos around the property. A lot. Thankfully, most of their photos were happening on the bridge, which meant the church area stayed relatively clear. Crisis avoided. We didn’t have to worry about anyone wandering into the background at the exact wrong moment. The trees weren’t quite as full as I would’ve preferred for hiding — late February doesn’t exactly offer lush coverage — but we made it work. That’s part of proposal photography: a little creativity, a little patience, and a lot of timing.

The Moment Itself

When Mason got down on one knee, everything else faded. The nerves. The background noise. The planning. It was just the two of them in that moment. And that’s always my favorite part of surprise engagements — the shift from anticipation to pure emotion in a matter of seconds. Sydney was genuinely surprised, which is not always easy to pull off. You could see it all over her face.

And yes — she said yes.

The Real Surprise

As if the proposal itself wasn’t enough, there was one more layer waiting for her. Sydney knew they were heading to dinner at The Mill afterward. What she didn’t know was just how many people would be “joining them.” After we finished taking a few just-engaged photos in front of the church, we made our way toward the bridge — where their families were waiting. Seeing her realize that some of the most important people in their lives were there to celebrate with them was my favorite part of the entire evening. That moment of recognition, the hugs, the laughter — those are the kinds of memories that stick.

Final Thoughts

Surprise engagements always come with a little unpredictability. Busy Saturdays. Not-quite-leafed-out trees. Unexpected crowds. But when the moment happens, none of that matters. What matters is the look on her face. The relief on his. The joy that follows. Mason and Sydney’s proposal was thoughtful, intentional, and full of heart. I’m so grateful I got to be part of it — and I can’t wait to see where this next season of their story takes them.
