Best Engagement Session Locations in Southwest Missouri

My Go-To Spots for Gorgeous Light, Natural Backdrops, and a Little Variety

If you’re newly engaged and wondering where to take your engagement photos around southwest Missouri, I’ve got you. After photographing dozens of couples (and taking my own engagement photos here nearly 9 years ago), I’ve narrowed down a few tried-and-true favorites.

Each of these spots works beautifully for golden or blue hour lighting, has versatile backdrops, and offers a unique vibe depending on the season and your style.

1. Finley Farms | Ozark, MO

I shoot probably half of my engagement sessions here—and for good reason. It’s especially great for spring and summer thanks to all the florals they plant around the property.

What I love most? It’s set up so well for photographers. Most of the spots are facing the right direction for that dreamy golden hour light (roughly two hours before sunset), and it feels a little different every week in spring and fall as things bloom and change.

It leans a bit rustic, but it doesn’t have to. We can make it feel casual, cozy, romantic, or even a little more polished depending on your outfits and the season.

2. Nathanael Greene Park | Springfield, MO

This spot is incredibly versatile—and best in spring and summer when the gardens are in full bloom. There are dozens of little corners to explore, so no two sessions feel the same.

Fun fact: my husband and I took our own engagement photos here nearly a decade ago. I’ve also done styled shoots at this location (which I may link to once it’s on the blog), so it holds a special place in my heart.

If you love lots of greenery, flowers, and that light and airy garden feel, this one’s a top contender.

3. All Saints Anglican Church + Sequiota Park Combo | Springfield, MO

This one came from a couple’s suggestion a few years ago, and now I probably do a quarter of my sessions here. The elegant stonework of the church is so photogenic, and it works for both morning and evening sessions.

I often pair this with a quick walk over to Sequiota Park. The bridge, trails, and foliage are a perfect contrast to the church’s architecture, and the combo gives us a ton of variety without needing to change locations.

4. Downtown Springfield

If you’re looking for something more urban and less rustic (which is rare in the Ozarks!), downtown Springfield is a gem. Whether it’s old streets, historic homes, bar scenes, or alley shots, there are endless possibilities.

It works well all year round, but especially in fall and winter when outdoor greenery is sparse and you want something with more texture and grit.

5. Dogwood Canyon | Lampe, MO

I’ll be honest—this one isn’t my favorite to drive to (hello, curvy roads), but the setting is worth it, especially in the spring.

This featured session is from three years ago and is still one of my favorites. If you’re drawn to nature, waterfalls, and wide-open views, Dogwood Canyon is a beautiful (and dramatic) option.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right engagement session location comes down to light, season, and your personal vibe. All five of these options are places I love and know well—and they work beautifully across different times of year.

Still deciding? I send all my couples a location guide after booking, complete with outfit tips, seasonal examples, and a quick reference sheet (coming soon to the blog!) so you can see how these places look in real life.
