A Joyful March Wedding at Samuel Cedars for Kimberly & Shawn

Some weddings feel like they’ve been a long time coming—Kimberly & Shawn’s definitely fits that bill. Originally planned for June 2024 (right around the time my daughter would’ve turned one!), this sweet celebration at Samuel Cedars was rescheduled for March… and honestly? The weather showed up like it was still June. Nearly 80°, full sun, and that warm Missouri light we all cross our fingers for.

The only time I’d met Kimberly & Shawn before was back when I was pregnant, so reconnecting on their wedding day felt extra special. We started things off right away with their first look—surrounded by a small group of loved ones who couldn’t help but watch the moment unfold. It was bright (classic March before the trees fill in), but the joy on their faces more than made up for the squinty sunshine.

With a smaller bridal party, things felt easy and unhurried. The ceremony was especially sweet—officiated by none other than my dad. He’s a bit of a wedding pro at this point, and I always know exactly when to catch his signature one-liners and those candid reactions from the couple. He keeps things personal, heartfelt, and just the right amount of funny.

After the ceremony, we rolled through family photos and then carved out time for relaxed portraits around the property. Kimberly & Shawn were total naturals—and the light was perfection.

Now let’s talk about the reception. I’ll be honest: I wasn’t expecting it to be this lively (the guest list leaned a little older), but wow. The dance floor was packed all night long. And the dollar dance? Let’s just say Shawn may never financially recover… guests got hilariously creative with where they stashed their bills. 😂 It was one of the funniest, most joy-filled receptions I’ve had the chance to photograph in a while.

Kimberly & Shawn, thank you for letting me be part of your day. It was worth the wait—and then some.
