How to Choose the Perfect Engagement Session Location

Let’s be real—choosing a location for your engagement photos can feel a little overwhelming. There are so many beautiful spots, and it’s easy to get stuck wondering which one will feel just right.

Here’s the good news: you don’t have to figure it out alone! I’ve helped tons of couples pick locations that not only look amazing but also feel totally “them.” If you’re looking for specific spots, I’ve rounded up some of the best engagement session locations in the Springfield & Branson area. But if you’re not sure what kind of location fits your vibe, this post will help you narrow it down.

1. Think About Your Vibe

Are you more of an outdoorsy, nature-loving couple? Or do you prefer something a little more urban and modern? Maybe you want something that’s meaningful—like where you first met or had your first date.

Here are a few vibe ideas:

  • Nature lovers: Open fields, lakes, wooded areas.

  • City folks: Downtown spots, brick buildings, coffee shops.

  • Sentimental: A family property, a favorite hangout, or your own home.

2. Consider the Season

Some spots really shine in certain seasons. A flower garden in spring? Yes, please. A cozy forest in fall? Always a win. I can help you pick a spot that works with the season you’re planning for (and give you a heads-up on what the light will be like!).

3. Morning or Evening?

The time of day plays a big role in how a location looks. Some spots are best in the morning with soft, glowy light, while others are perfect for that golden hour magic. Not sure what’s best? I’ll guide you based on the lighting and time of year. Still others look great no matter what time of day (case in point below)!

4. How Far Do You Want to Go?

Are you up for a bit of an adventure or do you prefer something close to home? I’ve got plenty of favorite spots in the Springfield and Branson areas, but I’m always down to travel a bit if you have something special in mind.

I’ve put together a little guide with some of my favorite spots, including photos, what season they look best in, and whether we shot in the morning or evening. You can check that out here.

Bonus Tip: Bring the Fun

Sometimes adding something personal—like your dog, truck, prop, or a picnic—can make any location feel more like you. I’ll help you plan it out so everything flows naturally.

Need help picking the perfect spot? Just let me know what kind of vibe you’re thinking, and we’ll brainstorm together. I’m all about making this a fun and relaxed experience from start to finish.
